Women's basketball tripped up at Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team made a late push to force overtime, but came up short in an 81-78 setback to Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (2-5, 1-1 NEAC) led by four points after the first quarter and took a 42-30 lead into the halftime intermission. Out of the break, the Bison (3-3, 1-1 NEAC) cut their deficit to three points going into the final period. Gallaudet jumped out to an eight point lead (70-62) early in the fourth quarter that the Nittany Lions had to battle back from the rest of the way. Berks pulled to within one point with 48 seconds remaining and again later with 09 seconds left, but the Bison defense closed out the game strong to secure the win.

Deanna Daddona connected on 5-of-8 shots from 3-point range and finished the contest with a team-high 23 points. The senior guard also recorded six steals, five rebounds, and one assist. Kylie Herman followed with 16 points to go along with five boards and three assists. Kaitlyn Armstrong again notched a double-double with her 14 points and 11 rebounds, while also tallying six assists and three steals. Sam Brensinger rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 10 points after going 2-of-4 from long distance. Julia Bookwalter and Abbie Carr each recorded five boards and two blocked shots.

Hannah Nield led the Bison with 26 points nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocked shots. Kendall Hudson chipped in 20 points and seven boards, while Emelia Beldon had 15 points and eight assists.

The Nittany Lions will close out the fall portion of their schedule with a NEAC game at Penn College on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 p.m.
