OWINGS MILLS, MD - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team exploded for 51 points in the second half, but that was not enough to overcome an early deficit as the Nittany Lions fell, 87-74, to Stevenson University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions trailed 25-3 over the first eight plus minutes of play and saw their largest deficit of the game at 26 (37-11) with 6:44 left in the first half. Berks outscored the Mustangs 12-8 for the rest of the opening period to make it a 45-23 score going into the break.

Berks methodically chipped away at its deficit in the second half and were able to make it a 8-point deficit (65-57) after a 3-pointer by Brandon Wise and then a layup by Latrell Carroll with 8:42 to go. Matt Seip drained a 3-pointer with 6:18 left to make it a six point game. The Mustangs bumped their lead back up to eight, but Carroll answered with a layup on the ensuing possession with 5:34 to play. Stevenson used an 8-0 run over the two minutes to take control and limited the Nittany Lions the rest of the way.
