Men's tennis opens season with win over Albright

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team opened up the 2018-19 season with a 6-3 victory on the road over nearby Albright College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions begin the year 1-0 for third time in the last four years. Prior to that, the last time Berks won the season opener was in the fall of 2008. With the loss, Albright drops to 0-5 on the year.

Albright grabbed a 2-1 lead after the doubles action. Berks' lone win in doubles play came from the top duo of Diego Olazagasti and Curtis Uhle, who had an 8-4 triumph over Noah Jessie and Armando Santana.

In singles play, the Nittany Lions won in five of the six flights to capture the victory. Olazagasti was ahead 5-0 before winning by defaults at the No. 1 spot. Uhle dropped his first set 6-3, but battled back with a 6-3 win in the second set and took the super tiebreaker by a 10-8 count. Jeremy Heist earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No.4, while Sneh Patel had a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at the fifth spot. Louay Qubain made his collegiate debut with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Nittany Lions will host Alvernia University in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 9 at 3:30 p.m.
