Women's tennis grabs 8-1 victory over Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team picked up an 8-1 win on the road over Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 6-5 on the season and 3-0 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats fall to 0-8 overall and drop to 0-1 in conference action.

Berks swept all three of the doubles contests to jump out to an early lead. The duo of Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim edged Melissa Stabley and Morgan Blackwell by a score of 8-4 in the top doubles spot. The No. 2 pairing of Kianna Anderson and Erin Ginther grabbed an 8-2 victory, while Lucrezia Pulcini and Brittney Mecca won the No.3 doubles bout by an 8-1 margin.

In singles action, Bashore earned  a win in the top flight with a 6-2, 7-5 (9-1) triumph, while Anderson was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at the second spot. Youwakim (No. 4), Pulcini (No. 5), and Mecca (No. 6) all won their matches by set scores of 6-0, 6-0.

The Nittany Lions will travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth for a NEAC contest on Sunday, April 9 at 12 p.m.
