Women's tennis picks up sweep in conference play

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis squad cruised to a 9-0 victory over visiting Bryn Athyn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at the Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions climb back to .500 with their winning percentage as they improve to 5-5 on the year and 2-0 in NEAC play, while Bryn Athyn drops to 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

All three of the doubles teams won by a score of 8-0 in their matches. The No. 1 duo of Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim won their second straight doubles match together, while the No. 2 pair of Kianna Anderson and Erin Ginther earned their fourth straight doubles win together and improved to 5-3 on the season. Lucrezia Pulcini and Brittney Mecca teamed up for their third straight doubles victory and are now 3-2 in doubles action this season.

Anderson (No. 2), Youwakim (No. 4), and Pulcini (No. 5) all claimed their singles matches by set scores of 6-0, 6-0. Ginther (No. 3) and Mecca (No. 6) won 6-0, 6-2 in their singles flight, while Bashore edged her opponent 6-4, 6-2 in the top spot.

The women's tennis team joined up with the men's team to host their annual Spring Pink Game fundraisers. The two teams combined to raise $68.21 with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

The Nittany Lions will hit the road for a pair of NEAC contests this weekend. They travel to Penn College on Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m., followed by a trip to the College of Saint Elizabeth on Sunday, April 9 at 12 p.m.
