Women's tennis falls in NEAC Title match to Abington

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team came up short in its bid for the title, falling 5-2 to Penn State Abington in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Birchwood Tennis Club.

The teams battled through all of the doubles bouts, but Abington came out with a 2-1 lead. The duo of Kianna Anderson and Erin Ginther took the No. 2 match by a score of 8-6 to give Berks its lone doubles win. In the No. 3 match, Lucrezia Pulcini and Brittney Mecca were edged 8-6 by Sally Phung and Sam Amaro. At the top doubles spot, Honora Hegarty and Madison Kimball topped Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim by an 8-4 margin.

In singles action, Pulcini picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory to give Berks its second point. But Abington was able to snag wins at No. 1, 3, and 4 to get to five team points and seal the victory.

Berks finishes the season with an overall record of 9-7. They will finish out the season with the NEAC Individual Tournament on Sunday, April 30 at the Birchwood Tennis Courts at 9 a.m.
