Women's tennis tops LBC, 5-0 in semifinal round

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team topped Lancaster Bible College, 5-0, in the semifinal round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Tournament on Friday afternoon at the Birchwood Tennis Club. Berks will now advance to the NEAC Championship game on Saturday morning, where they will face Penn State Abington at 10 a.m.

The Nittany Lions (9-6) jumped out to an comfortable early lead by sweeping the doubles bouts. The No. 1 duo of Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim edged Greta Strunk and Lynndath Thelemaque 8-4, while Kianna Anderson and Erin Ginther claimed their No. 2 match by an 8-2 margin. Lucrezia Pulcini and Brittney Mecca finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at the third flight.

Pulcini gave Berks another point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles spot. Ginther clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at third singles to send Berks into the title game.

Berks and Abington faced each other earlier in the week, with Abington winning by a score of 9-0 to finish as the NEAC Regular Season Champions. This is the third straight season that the two teams have met in the NEAC Championship, with Berks winning the title each of the last two years.
