Nittany Lions earn sweep on the road over Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn State Berks softball team came away with a sweep over Gallaudet University with game scores of 11-1 and 9-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions extend their winning streak to 15 straight to improve to 19-7 overall and 13-1 in the NEAC, while the Bison drop to 13-22 on the year and 4-11 in conference play.

In the opener, the four through seven batters in the order combined to go 11-for-16 with seven RBI and six runs scored. Carley Smith, Becca Faust, and Kendel Reed all went 3-for-4. Smith added one stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI, Faust had two runs batted in, and Reed recorded a double, a run scored and drove in one run. Megan Olsen finished the contest 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored. Madison Newhouser went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Chelsea Bright finished 1-for-3 with a double, one stolen base, and two runs scored.

Jessica Rozick scattered two hits and allowed one run, while striking out five batters and walking none. She improves to 11-3 with 13 complete games, 108 strikeouts, and a 1.14 ERA in 85.2 innings of work.

Ashley Malek led the offense in game two, going 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Jenna Heffner was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a single-game career best three stolen bases. Olsen finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, followed by Smith with a 2-for-3 performance that included a stolen base and a run scored.

Faust earned the win in the pitcher's circle with a four-hitter in 6.0 innings tossed. She allowed just one unearned run and struck out two batters.The sophomore right-hander improves to 4-2 on the year with six complete games and a 2.97 ERA in 33.0 innings pitched.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Abington for a NEAC doubleheader on Tuesday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
