Women's tennis tops LBC to remain unbeaten in NEAC play

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team, who took to the courts for first time in 10 days, won its sixth straight match with an 8-1 victory over Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon at the Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions improve their record to 8-5 overall and 5-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers drop to 6-4 on the year and 4-1 in the conference.

Berks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play behind Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim grabbing an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 bout. The No. 2 doubles team of Kianna Anderson and Erin Ginther, along with the No. 3 pair of Lucrezia Pulcini and Brittney Mecca both picked up 8-0 victories.

Pulcini cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, while Mecca earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the sixth slot. Anderson (No. 2) had a 6-2, 6-2 triumph and Ginther grabbed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 3. Youwakim picked up a 7-5 win in a first set thriller and bounced back from a 4-1 deficit for a 6-4 second set victory to seal the win at fourth singles.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Abington for the regular season finale on Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. Berks and Abington (4-0) are currently the last remaining unbeaten teams in the NEAC and Saturday's match will determine the regular season champion.
