Rozick's perfect game highlights sweep of St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Jessica Rozick tossed the second perfect game (fourth no-hitter) of her collegiate career and the offense tallied a run in all five innings to propel the Penn State Berks softball team to a 9-0 win over the College of Saint Elizabeth in game number one. The Nittany Lions followed that up with a 6-0 victory in the nightcap to earn the twinbill sweep in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division action on Wednesday afternoon.

Berks extended its winning streak to seven straight as they improve to 11-7 overall and 7-1 in the NEAC, while the Eagles drop to 3-19 on the season and 0-8 in conference play.

Rozick recorded seven strikeouts, five ground outs, and three fly outs as retired all 15 batters that came to the plate in order in the opening game. The sophomore right-hander allowed only to balls out of the infield in the form of a pop out to left field in the fourth and a fly out to right in the fifth. With the win, Rozick improves to 7-3 with 84 strikeouts, while lowering her ERA to 1.36 on the season. This marked her ninth complete-game and second shutout of the year.

Carley Smith was a career-high 3-for-4 with one double, one RBI, and one run scored to pace the offense. Jenna Heffner, Ashley Malek, Megan Olsen, and Becca Faust all finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with both of Heffner's hits going for doubles. Heffner, Malek, and Olsen all scored two runs, while Chelsea Bright, Malek, and Faust each drove in a pair of runs. Madison Newhouser went 1-for-3 with a run scored and Morgan Omlor finished 1-for-1. With the two hits in the game, Malek became the ninth player in program history to reach 100 career hits.

Faust (2-2) turned in her finest performance out of the pitcher's circle in game two with a 7.0 inning, complete-game shutout. The sophomore right-hander, who struck out a season-high four batters, allowed only five hits and did not allow any base runners beyond second base. She down the batters in order in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.

Heffner fueled the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Smith went 2-for-3 with a runs scored, while Faust helped her own cause at the plate with an RBI-double and a run scored. Bright and Olsen both had RBI singles.

The Nittany Lions continued NEAC play when they host Penn State Abington on Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m.
