Women's tennis tops Albright in thriller

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team returned to action with a thrilling 5-4 victory over nearby foe Albright College in a non-conference tilt on Thursday afternoon..

The Nittany Lions improve to 3-5 on the year, while Albright falls to 2-3 overall.

Berks jumped out to a 2-1 lead at the end of doubles play after winning the No. 2 and No. 3 bouts. Kianna Anderson and Erin Ginther picked up an 8-1 win at the second flight, while Lucrezia Pulcini and Brittney Mecca won by the same score at third doubles. Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim battled hard in the top spot, but the duo were topped by a score of 8-5 by Mara Trifoli and Brooke Ronney.

Albright picked up singles wins at No. 1, 2, 5, while Berks had wins by Ginther at No. 3 (7-5, 6-4) and Mecca at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1). The Nittany Lions clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph by Youwakim at fourth singles.

The Nittany Lions will face Wells College in their NEAC opener on Sunday, April 2 at 11 a.m.
