Women's soccer to face SUNY Geneseo in regional opener

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team will face off with tournament host SUNY Geneseo in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship beginning on Saturday, November 11 at 11 a.m.

The Nittany Lions (15-5-1) received an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after defeating Penn College, 4-0, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon. This is the fifth straight appearance for the Nittany Lions in the NCAA Tournament. Berks defeated Carnegie Mellon University, 3-1, in the opening round and topped Nazareth College, 1-0, in the second round. In the Sweet 16, the Nittany Lions suffered a 2-0 setback to Trinity (Texas) University, who was ranked No. 2 in the country at the time.

SUNY Geneseo, who is ranked No. 12 in the nation, earned an automatic bid into the tournament after beating SUNY Plattsburgh, 4-0, in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship on Saturday. This will be the Knights (16-1-2) sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament, first since the 2014 season.

The other opening round match at the SUNY Geneseo site will be Misericordia University and Hamilton College at 1:30 p.m.. Misericordia was the MAC Freedom winner, while Hamilton was an at-large selection.
