READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team had its 2017 season come to an end with a 3-1 setback to Gallaudet University in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Semifinal round on Saturday afternoon at the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions, who were the No. 1 seed and host of the NEAC Tournament, drop to 14-14 on the season, while the Bison are now 18-15. Gallaudet, which will make its eighth straight appearance in the NEAC Championship, topped Berks 27-15 in the opener, but the Nittany Lions bounced back with a 25-17 win in the second. The Bison claimed the victory by edging the Nittany Lions 25-22 and 25-21 in the final two sets.

Alexis Horst turned in a spectacular performance after leading the offense with 20 kills, which is one shy of her career-high. In addition, Horst racked up 17 digs to finish with ninth double-double of the season. Maddy Kessler was second on the team with nine kills and Abbie Carr added seven. Amia Boone and Megan Lackman followed with five kills each, Lackman also notched 15 digs. Madison Wojciechowski had a contest-high 26 digs as the Nittany Lions had four players record double figures in digs. Morgan Schwartz was gave a stellar effort with 44 assists to go along with four aces and 10 digs. Laken Bankert chipped in nine digs and three service aces, while Lackman totaled 15 digs.

Gallaudet was led by Darriyan Thomas, who was again named the NEAC Player of the Year, with 17 kills and 12 digs. Giuletta Maucere and Shua Clay both had eight kills, while Karita Lewis added seven. Raelyn Fuechtmann had a team-high 20 digs to go along with four service aces.

The Nittany Lions finished as the NEAC Regular Season Champions for the second time in program history, joining the 2011 team. They had three players earn All-NEAC First Team honors (Wojciechowski, Horst, Lackman) and one on the third team (Schwartz). Wojciechowski, who reached 1,004 career digs this afternoon, was named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year. With just two juniors and a roster full of underclassmen, along with incoming recruits, the future looks promising for the Nittany Lions.
