Women's soccer picks up shutout over Keuka

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team earned its third straight shutout victory with a 4-0 win over Keuka College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 9-5-1 overall and 8-0 in the NEAC, while Keuka falls to 6-7-1 on the season and 5-3-1 in the conference.

Julia Green got Berks on the scoreboard with a goal at the 10:16 mark of the opening period. Monica Pinel sent a pass deep into the box that Green was able to flip up and over the keeper for her third goal of the season.

The Nittany Lions went into the halftime intermission with a 1-0 lead, but were able to get going early in the second half. Karina Raykova headed in a goal off of a corner kick by Alexa Lopez to extend the lead to 2-0 in the 49th minute. Pinel later tacked on a goal off of a feed from Charlotte Pizzuto in the 58th minute. Caitlin Golden finished off the scoring with a line drive over the keeper's head off a pass by Megan Jardine at the 62:35 mark of the contest.

Paige Elmy finished with one save to record the 19th shutout of her career. The shutout was also large in part due to the strong defensive play out of Shelby Baker, Mackenzie Fredricks, Raykova, and Jess Mandeville on the back line.

Berks outshot the Wolves by a 23-5 margin, including a 12-1 count on shots on goal, and held an 8-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host the University of Scranton in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m.
