Men's basketball drops NEAC tilt to Abington

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team opened up the second half of its season with a 71-61 setback to Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Saturday afternoon.

Berks used an 8-0 run to close out the opening half, but still trailed 34-26 at the intermission. Out of the break, Berks was able to cut the deficit to three points with 17:48 remaining, but jumped back out to a double digit lead and kept that for good the rest of the way.

Baba Waples knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers en route to a contest-best 26 points. The senior guard now sits at 976 career points. Matt Thompson notched the first double-double of his career after recording 13 points and 13 rebounds. Thompson also had two blocked shots while playing in a career-high 38 minutes of action. Eli Adams connected on three 3-pointers and finished with a season-high in points (11) and rebounds (4). Nelson Hine added six points, four assists, and five rebounds, while Joel Ellison chipped in five points and three boards.

Lamar Moore led Abington with 19 points and nine rebounds, followed by Momolu Dorley and John Ryan with 12 points each.

Berks will host the College of Saint Elizabeth in a NEAC contest on Tuesday, January 10 at 8 p.m.
