Nittany Lions cruise in NEAC opener

Box Score KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team turned in a near flawless performance in a 3-0 win over Cazenovia College in the Nittany Lions North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on Friday evening on the campus of Keuka College.

The Nittany Lions improve to 7-4 on the season and 1-0 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats fall to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference. Berks took the match by scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-12. The offense finished with a season-best .326 hitting percentage after collecting 39 kills with only nine errors on 92 attempts. In addition, the team recorded a season-high 15 service aces.

Alexis Horst tallied 10 kills without any errors on 17 attempts for a very efficient .588 attack percentage to go along with seven digs and a service ace. Samantha Gonzalez also had a fine offensive performance, crushing eight kills with only one error to record a .340 hitting percentage. Gonzalez also chipped in seven digs. Laken Bankert was accountable for more than half of the teams service aces with nine total, which is tied for the fourth most in a single game in program history. Bankert had eight digs, while Madison Wojciechowski and Janae Barlow finished with a team high nine. Morgan Schwartz handed out 30 assists and also notched seven digs.

The Nittany Lions continue conference play on Saturday, September 24 against Keuka College (10 a.m.) and Wells College (12 p.m.)
