Men's tennis fall in heartbreaker to Albright

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback to Albright College in the 2016-17 season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions (0-1) raced out an early lead after winning two out of the three doubles bouts. The No. 2 duo of Omar Rahmy and Mostafa Rahmy earned an 8-5 victory, while Nick Volk and Diego Olazagasti won by an 8-1 margin at third doubles.

In singles action, Volk picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at the fifth flight, while Dylan Deleon (No. 6) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory in his match.

In the most intense match of the contest, Albright's Dylan Rutt outlasted Omar Rahmy in the No. 4 singles bout to decide the contest. Rahmy, powered by his big serve, took the first set 6-4, but Rutt evened things with a 6-4 win of his own in the second set. The decisive third set was a back-and-forth battle that came down to a tie-break, with Rutt emerging by a 7-5 margin to win the third set 7-6.

The Nittany Lions return to action with a nonconference contest at home against Alvernia University on Thursday, September 22 at 3:30 p.m.
