Volleyball swept at Keystone tri-match

LA PLUME, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought battle to Wilkes University, 3-1, and later fell to host Keystone College, 3-0, in a pair on non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon at Ace Spalding Arena.

In the opener against Wilkes, the Nittany Lions were edged 25-20 and 25-21 in the first two games, but picked up a convincing 25-14 win of their own to keep the match alive. The Colonels picked up the decisive win by taking the fourth game by a score of 25-21.

Lindsay Amrhein and Alexis Horst each tallied 12 kills, two service aces, and a block assist in the opening match. Madison Wojciechowski and Laken Bankert tied for the team lead with 12 digs, while Morgan Schwartz had nine to go along with her 33 assists. Horst and Cristine Humer each recorded eight digs.

Jamey Mikovich recorded 11 kills, three aces and 10 digs to pace the Colonels.

In the second game, the Giants took the contest by scores of 25-10, 30-28, and 25-13.

Amrhein and Horst again tied for the team lead in kills with seven, followed by Megan Lackman with six. Schwartz handed out 21 assists and recorded a team-high seven digs.

Hannah Zuchowski led Keystone with 22 kills and two solo blocks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Brandywine on Monday, September 12 for a non-conference contest starting at 7 p.m.
