Men's tennis falls in title game to Penn State Abington

CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team saw its 2015-16 season draw to a close with a 5-2 setback to Penn State Abington in the championship game of the North Atlantic Conference West Division Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Birchwood Tennis Courts.

Abington (9-7) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles bouts. The No. 1 duo of Drew Weinhold and Will Byler took their match to the limits, but came up short in an 8-6 loss to Mohammed Ammouni and Qili Jian. Jerrad Seifrit and Ryan Fritz were edged by Monte Dunson and Justin McNab by a score of 8-4 in the second doubles flight.

In singles action, Byler picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Mike Herman in the second spot and Fritz claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win over McNab at three. Ammouni and Dunson clinched the match for Abington with wins at No. 1 and 4, respectively.

Berks closes out its season with a record of 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the NAC West Division. It was the second straight season that Berks finished runner-up in postseason play.
