Baseball splits regular season finale with Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team opened up the day with a 9-2 victory in game one, before falling in game two by a score of 6-2 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Charger Field.

The Nittany Lions move to 20-11 on the season and 10-4 in the NEAC, while the Chargers are now 21-15 overall and 8-5 in the conference. The two teams close out the regular season in second and third place in the conference standings and will now meet in the opening round of the postseason.

GAME ONE
Sean Pavlik continued his dominating pitching with another nine inning complete-game gem. The sophomore right-hander scattered seven hits, while allowing two runs and striking out nine batters. Pavlik improved to 7-2 on the season with six complete games, 69 strikeouts, and a 1.93 ERA.

Pavlik worked out of trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning after surrendering already surrendering a run and facing bases loaded with nobody out and the top of the order coming up. The Chargers attempted a suicide squeeze, but the batter missed on his bunt attempt and catcher John McGarvey was able to track down the runner for out number one. Pavlik then struck out the No. 2 batter in the order swinging and set down the three hitter looking to escape the jam.

In the bottom of the sixth, the LBC got a leadoff single followed by a double to put runners on second and third with no outs. But Pavlik got back-to-back strikeouts and a fly to center field to get out of trouble.

Tyler Comport, who hit a leadoff home run to left center in the top of the second inning, finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI, and four runs scored. Keeanu Erb recorded two hits and matched a career-high with four runs batted in, while Luke Erb was 3-for-5.

GAME TWO
The Chargers scored two in the third and added three more in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead as righty Zack Leonard was keeping the Berks offense silent. The Nittany Lions were able to break on through in the top of the sixth when Tom Grablewski reached on an error by the third baseman and McGarvey followed with a two-run shot to center field for his third homer of the season.

The Nittany Lions will wait for the official announcement by the conference office for location and start time of the postseason tournament
