Softball takes two from LBC, win streak at 20 straight

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks softball team kept chugging along as they swept Lancaster Bible College, 4-0 and 12-3, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions extended their program-best win streak 20 straight to improve to 26-3 on the season and 16-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers fall to 14-19 overall and 5-11 in the conference.

GAME ONE
Jessica Rozick set the single-game school record after recording 15 strikeouts. The freshman right-hander notched at least two strikeouts in every inning and struck out the side in the fourth. She ran into some trouble in the fifth inning when the Chargers had a leadoff triple, followed by a walked batter to put runners on the corners. But Rozick got a strike out looking, pop up to third, and a strike out swinging to end the threat. The only hit against Rozick on the day were a pair of triples, but the runners were left stranded both times. Rozick is now 12-1 with 13 complete games, a 0.92 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 91.0 innings of work.

Chelsea Bright led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced all the way to third on a single by Jenna Heffner. Megan Olsen grounded out to the second baseman to score Bright from third and give Berks an early 1-0 lead. They added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted with RBI doubles by Missy Lamm and Becky Webster.

GAME TWO
The Chargers opened the game with a pair of runs in their first at-bats, but Berks countered with six runs in their half of the inning. Both teams exchanged a run in the second inning, but Berks put the game out of reach with a five run fourth inning.

Heather Rissell finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two runs batted in, while Mackenzie Huber went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Olsen scored three times, while Lamm and Kendel Reed each scored twice.

Olsen earned the win in the pitcher's circle, tossing five innings and recording four strike outs to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The softball squad teamed up with tennis and baseball to host their annual spring Pink Games on Saturday afternoon. The teams combined to raise $232.79 to help benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

The Nittany Lions will host Rosemont College in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26 at 3 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Nittany Lions will honor Missy Lamm and Abby Staskiel with Senior Day Festivities.
