Rozick fires no-no; Nittany Lions earn another sweep

LANCASTER, PA - Jessica Rozick fired her second no-hitter in seven days and the offensive stayed red hot as the Penn State Berks softball team swept Lancaster Bible College by scores of 13-0 and 14-3 in a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contests on Tuesday afternoon at Charger Field.

The Nittany Lions upped their season-high win streak to 12 straight games and improved to 19-3 overall and 8-0 in the conference, while the Chargers now sit at 10-11 for the season and 1-3 in NEAC play.

GAME 1
Rozick recorded 11 of the 15 outs via strikeout, which is just one short of her career-high 12 against Penn College in the season opener. Rozick forced two flyouts to the outfield and two in the infield for the other four outs of the game. The only blemish of the game for Rozick was a walk in the first inning and a pair of walks in the fourth. Rozick improves to 8-1 on the season with nine complete games, four shuts, and 76 strikeouts in 63.0 innings pitched.

The offense spotted Rozick with a five-run lead before she even threw her first pitch of the game and proceeded to score at least one run in each of the next four frames. All of the starters recorded at least one hit and five finished with two hits as the team pounded out 14 for the game.

Ashley Malek and Missy Lamm each finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Both of Malek's hits were doubles, while Lamm had a single and a double. Heather Rissell and Megan Olsen each recorded two hits and scored two runs, while Mackenzie Huber finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Becky Webster went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs with a basses clearing double in the first inning.

GAME 2
The game started out as a pitcher's duel locked in a scoreless tie until the bats came to life for Berks with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Chargers got back into the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Nittany Lions pulled away with eight runs in the top of the seventh.

Olsen picked up where Rozick left off in the pitcher's circle as she retired the first 11 batters in order and did not allow a hit until the second batter of the fifth inning. Olsen struck out a career-high seven batters, while surrendering four hits and allowing three runs. Becca Faust tossed a 1-2-3 seventh inning to secure the victory.

Natalie Babik enjoyed a career day after going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Kendel Reed finished 3-for-5 with a double, triple, one run batted in, and two runs scored. Malek was 2-for-5 with a stolen base, a double, two runs scored, and three RBI. Jenna Heffner and Rissell each tallied two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI, with Heffner also recording a stolen base.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m.
