Softball makes it eight straight with sweep of St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Penn State Berks softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep, 9-0 and 8-2, over the College of Saint Elizabeth in a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division games on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved 14-3 on the season and 4-0 in NEAC play, while the Eagles fall to 8-13 overall and 1-6 in the conference.

GAME 1
Jessica Rozick gave another stellar performance out of the pitcher's circle with her complete-game, three hitter to earn her sixth win of the season. The freshman right-hander struck out eight batters and allowed just one walk. Rozick allowed a runner to reach third in the fourth inning and a runner to second in the fifth, but that was the only two Eagles to get into scoring position in the game.

The Nittany Lions had eight hits in the game, four of which were home runs. In the top of the second inning, Kendel Reed connected on her first home run of the season with a 2-run shot to left field. Later in the inning, Chelsea Bright smashed a 3-run homer to left field. Two batters later, Ashley Malek smacked a two-run shot to give Berks a 7-0 lead in the early going. Malek capped off the scoring with a two-run blast to left field in the top of the fourth inning. The sophomore catcher finished the game 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBI, and two runs scored.

Game 2
Becca Faust allowed three hits in five scoreless innings to earn the win and Megan Olsen finished off the final two innings to pick up the save. The Eagles got two in hits in the first inning and loaded the bases with just one out after a Berks error, but Faust escaped the jam with a pop out to first and a strike out. She finished the contest with a season-high six strikeouts.

Berks used a 12-hit attack and were able to put the game out of reach with five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Mackenzie Huber finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored, while Missy Lamm and Olsen each had two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Bright and Natalie Babik each had a double and scored a run.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Abington for a NEAC doubleheader on Monday, April 11 at 3 p.m.
