Women's basketball cruises to conference win

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team set the single game school record for points scored in a game in its 105-68 victory over Wilson College on Thursday night in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 33-19 lead at the end of the first period and took a 23 point lead into the halftime break. The offense continued its hot shooting in the second half and Berks finished the game 45.1% (32-of-71) from the floor and a red-hot 84.2% (32-for-38) at the free throw line.

Deanna Daddona had a career-high 37 points, which is the second most points in a game in program history, finishing one shy of Shanelle Koch's 38 points scored against Wells College on February 14, 2014. Daddona was 9-of-19 from the floor, including four 3-pointers and was nearly perfect at the foul line where she went 15-for-16. Daddona, who is fourth in the conference with a 20.4 scoring average, has tallied 20 or more points in nine contests and twice scored in the 30's. The freshman guard also notched a game-high seven steals and five assists.

Koch recorded her third double-double of the season after chipping in 18 points and 11 rebounds, with all of the boards coming in the second half. Koch also had four steals, three assists and two blocked shots. Cassidy Schultz finished with 22 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Dakota Dawson had a career-high 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Mackenzie Huber added nine points, while Angie Russell had seven points and eight boards. Whitney Allen chipped in two points and three rebounds.

The 105 points scored is the first team in program-history to surpass the century mark and is the most scored since a 97 point effort against the College of Saint Elizabeth on January 26, 2014. The nine 3-pointers and 32 free throws made as a team were the fifth most in school history.

Jordyn Day led the Phoenix with 20 points, followed by Lindsey Purvis with 18. Morgan Wonders added 10 points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC contest on Saturday, February 6 at 3 p.m.
