Women's volleyball falls in quarterfinals to Wells

UTICA, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a marathon match in the first game and then a pair of hard fought sets to see its 2016 season draw to a close in a 3-0 setback to Wells College in the NEAC Quarterfinal round on Friday evening on the campus of SUNY Polytechnic.

The Nittany Lions finish the season with a 20-11 overall record and went 10-3 in the in the NEAC regular season to earn the fourth spot in the standings. The No. 5 seeded Express (19-10), who won by a score of 3-1 over Berks in the regular season, grabbed the momentum after winning 33-31 in the first set. They followed that up with a 25-22 win in the next two games to claim the victory.

Junior Megan DeAbreu led the offense with 11 kills, followed by Alexis Horst with nine and Janae Barlow with eight. Madison Wojciechowski and Cristine Humer accounted for more than half of the teams digs, with Wojciechowski recording a contest-high 22 digs and Humer notching 11. Morgan Schwartz handed out 28 assists to go along with seven digs and one kill. Megan Lackman, Horst, and Jen Maxwell all had two block assists.

Jackie Allen paced the Express offense with 11 kills, while Olivia Brazier and Anuhea Leite-Ah Yo both added 10.
