Men's basketball falls on the road to Alvernia

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team was handed a 95-65 setback to Alvernia University in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening.

The Nittany Lions (0-2) trailed 47-28 going into the halftime break, but were able to get back into the game when a 3-pointer by Joel Ellison with 15:13 remaining in the second half cut the deficit to eight points (50-42). The Crusaders used a 27-9 run over the next several minutes to take control of the game.

Baba Waples lead Berks with 15 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Matt Thompson chipped in a career-high 13 points and four blocked shots, while also recording three boards and two assists. Darren Major rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 12 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor. Monte Stokes had a team-high eight rebounds to go with his seven points and three blocked shots. Nelson Hine added eight points and five boards, Ellison finished with seven rebounds.

George Williams had game-high 25 points and Marquis Marshall added 22 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to notch the double-double.

The Nittany Lions will face Stevenson University in a non-conference contest on Saturday, November 26 at 2 p.m.
