Hot shooting by Daddona and Koch lead Nittany Lions to win

READING, PA - Deanna Daddona and Shanelle Koch each tallied double-doubles to help propel the Penn State Berks women's basketball team to a 91-74 victory over visiting Penn College of Technology in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday evening at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 27-20 lead after the first quarter and were able to tack on six more points in the second to go into the break up by a score of 49-36. The Wildcats opened up the third quarter on a 7-0 run, but Berks used a 24-5 run midway through the period to extend its lead to 22 points. They eventually took a comfortable 75-54 advantage into the final quarter of the night.

Daddona finished two steals shy of tallying a triple-double. The freshman guard recorded 31 points, 12 rebounds, and eight steals, all three of which were career-highs. Daddona's 31 points were tied for the sixth most in a single-game, while her seven 3-pointers made tied the school record. She finished 10-of-20 from the floor and was 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. Daddona raised her scoring average to 19.2, which leads the Nittany Lions and is fourth in the NEAC. In addition, Daddona handed out four assists.

Koch matched her season-high with 26 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor and going 6-for-7 at the free throw line. The senior guard moved into second on the all-time scoring list with 1,232 career points, surpassing Steph Binder (2007-11) at 1,228 points. Koch notched the 24th double-double of her career after bringing down 10 boards, eight of which came in the second half. Koch also had three assists, three blocks, and two steals.

Cassidy Schultz rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 15 points to go along with a team-high seven assists. The senior guard also recorded seven rebounds and three steals. Whitney Allen drained three shots during the third quarter run to finish with a career-high six points. Dakota Dawson matched a career-high with seven rebounds, while Angie Russell added six points and tied her personal high with two blocked shots. Mackenzie Huber added five points, four assists, and three boards.

The 91 points scored and 22 assists are the third most in program-history, while the 34 field goals and 10 3-pointers made are tied for the fourth most. Another reason for the Nittany Lions success this evening was the 42-38 advantage on rebounds.

The Wildcats were led by Jamie Steer with 27 points and five blocked shots. Alicia Ross added 21 points, six boards, and five steals, while Ebani Lewis grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

The men's and women's basketball squads teamed up for a Pink Game fundraiser to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County. Donations were accepted at the door and members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee held a half-court shooting contest at halftime of each game which combined to raise $215.61.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in a NEAC South Division contest on Friday, January 29 at 7 p.m.
