Nittany Lions shutout by national powerhouse Messiah

GRANTHAM, PA (September 25, 2015) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to the nation's No.1 team, Messiah College, in a non-conference contest on Friday evening at Shoemaker Field in front of a crowd of 1,220.

The Nittany Lions (5-1-2) surrendered a goal just 32 seconds into the opening half, but were able to limit the Falcons (7-0-1) to only a 3-0 deficit heading into the halftime intermission. Messiah, which has a 318-17-17 record and has won five national championships since 2000, capped on three more scores in the second half. They held a 32-1 advantage on shots and a 10-1 margin on corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Paige Elmy finished the contest with a season-high nine saves in net, several of which were made in a diving manner. Caitlin Deibler and Brennan Moyer each made defensive saves off of corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will return to action with a NEAC contes on Saturday, September 26 at 1 p.m. against Cazenovia College.
