Softball swept by Penn State Abington

READING, PA (April 8, 2015) - The Penn State Berks softball team had its five game win streak come to a halt after being swept, 7-3 and 15-2, by Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

Berks, who was the away team despite playing at Hintz Athletic Field, got on the board in the opening frame with a two-run home run by Casey Hafer. Jenna Heffner drove in a run in the top of the second to make it a 3-1 lead, but it was all Abington the rest of the way.

Hafer finished the opening game 4-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a homer. Chelsea Bright was 1-for-1 with a walk and run scored, while Kaylie Vrabel had a hit and scored a run.

In the second game, Berks fell behind early, but were able to cut its deficit to 5-2 in the third inning. That was as close as Berks would get the rest of the way. Ashley Malek and Vrabel each had RBI singles, while Heffner and Megan Olsen scored the two runs for Berks.

The Nittany Lions will continue NEAC action with a doubleheader at Wilson College on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m.
