Softball splits at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, PA (April 11, 2015) - The Penn State Berks softball team split its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader at Wilson College on Saturday afternoon, falling 8-7 in the opener before winning the second game 7-0.

The Phoenix (6-5, 3-1 NEAC) won in walk-off fashion in the opener, but a one-hitter by Megan Olsen in the second game allowed Berks to leave with the split. The Nittany Lions (7-9, 6-4 NEAC) offense also came to life in game two, with three runs in the first and they tacked on two more in the fifth and seventh.

Olsen only face two batters above the maximum after allowing one hit and one runner reaching on an error. She sat the Phoenix down in order in five of the seven innings. She went through 13 straight batters without allowing a baserunner going from the third through the seventh inning. Olsen struck out two batters and did not issue any walks.

Julia Moscato led the offense, going 2-for-3 with four  RBI and and run scored. Jenna Heffner was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Chelsea Bright and Casey Hafer each recorded two runs.

The opener saw a number of lead changes throughout the entire contest, that was capped off by an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Hafer went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Heffner added a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Rhianna Roulston finished 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and a run scored.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for a NEAC South Division doubleheader on Sunday, April 12 at 12 p.m.
