Nittany Lions sweep St. Elizabeth on the road

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (April 22, 2015) - The Penn State Berks offense exploded for double digit run totals in a sweep over the College of Saint Elizabeth in a NEAC South Division doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions took the opener 17-4 and finished off the day with a 15-2 victory in the nightcap to run their win streak to five games.

Jenna Heffner, Casey Hafer, Ashley Malek, and Kaylie Vrabel each record two hits in the opener. Vrabel matched a career-high with her team leading three runs batted in, while Heffner added a triple and two runs scored. Julia Moscato had a solo home run and was matched by Megan Olsen and Rhianna Roulston with three runs scored.

Olsen improved to 8-1 on the season after tossing five innings of four hit ball. She struck out five batters and did not issue any walks.

The Nittany Lions (14-10, 13-5 NEAC South) kept the offensive outburst going in the second game with 12 runs in the top of the first inning. The run support was more than enough for game two starting pitcher Hafer, who allowed four hits and two runs while striking out five batters.

Mackenzie Huber matched a career-high with three hits, followed by Heffner, Hafer, and Olsen with two hits apiece. Olsen recorded four RBI, while Heffner and Hafer each drove in two runners. Six different Nittany Lions scored two or more runs with Heffner tallying a team-high three.

The Nittany Lions will wrap up its conference schedule with a home doubleheader against Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
