Softball splits home doubleheader with Wilson

READING, PA (April 18, 2015) - The Penn State Berks softball team was edged out 4-3 by Wilson College in the opener, but the Nittany Lions countered with a 15-0 win in the second game to salvage a split in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (10-10, 9-5 NEAC South) led 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning of game one, but three unearned runs gave division leading Wilson its winning margin. Berks was limited to just five hits on the day, led by Missy Lamm's 2-for-3 performance. Julia Moscato, Ashley Malek, and Rhianna Roulston each tallied RBIs.

In the second game, Megan Olsen scattered four hits, while striking out five batters in a complete-game, shutout win. The only inning the sophomore right-hander ran into trouble was a bases load, no-out jam in the top of the fourth. Olsen got a grounder back to her and got the force out at home for out number one. She then got a strikeout looking and escaped the jam with another strikeout.

At the plate, Mackenzie Huber went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. Roulston was 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs batted in, and two runs scored, while Jenna Heffner added two hits and a run scored. Casey Hafer, Moscato, and Malek each chipped two RBI. Carolyn Degurski and Morgan Omlor each had pinch hit singles and scored a run.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University on Sunday, April 18 beginning at 12 p.m.
