Softball sweeps Gallaudet on the road

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 12, 2015) - The Penn State Berks softball team picked up a sweep over Gallaudet University, 10-4 and 9-0, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

In the opener, the Nittany Lions (9-9, 8-4 NEAC South) had seven of its 12 hits go for extra bases and seven different players scored at least one run. Jenna Heffner had two triples, two RBI, and two runs scored, while Rhianna Roulston added two hits, a triple, two RBI, and a run scored. Julia Moscato was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored. Casey Hafer went 2-for-5 with a double, a stolen base, and an RBI.

Megan Olsen tossed a complete game with three strikeouts to earn her sixth win of the season.

In the second game, Abby Staskiel turned in the finest pitching performance of her career. The junior right-hander threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout with no walks allowed. The first batter to get a hit off of Staskiel was quickly erased off the base paths with a double play. Staskiel did not allow a single base runner in scoring position.

Heffner was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, three RBI, and a run scored. Ashley Malek had a double and drove in two runs, while Mackenzie Huber added a double and scored a run.

The Nittany Lions will host Albright College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m.
