Mummau notches game winner in 84th minute

UTICA, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team used a pair of second half goals to earn a comeback 2-1 win over SUNY Polytechnic in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Friday evening.

The Nittany Lions (13-2-2, 11-0 NEAC) clinched their fourth straight regular-season conference title and earned the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament that will be played next Saturday and Sunday.

Both teams were playing through a scoreless first half until the Wildcats (9-6-3, 7-2-2 NEAC) found the back of the net at the 41:53 mark of the first half.

The Nittany Lions were on the offensive right out of the gate of the second half, but were unable to get anything past the keeper. Finally, in the 65th minute Caitlin Golden took a feed from Chrissy Smith and sent a shot into the back of the net to even the contest at 1-all.

Both teams had various scoring opportunities the rest of the way, but it was Berks that was able to gain the winning edge. Ellie McKinstry found Lizzie Mummau open at the top of the box, who then sent a line drive into the top right corner to gain the winning edge.

Paige Elmy finished the contest with three saves, while her counterpart Angela Bartlett made eight stops.

The Nittany Lions will conclude the regular season with a NEAC contest at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, October 31 at 3 p.m.
