Women's volleyball sweeps first day of NEAC pool play

(October 3, 2015) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 shutouts over Bryn Athyn College and Penn State Abington on the first day of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) pool play on the campus of the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions have won seven of their last nine contests to improve to 11-8 overall and have improved to 6-2 in the conference. In the opener, Berks downed Bryn Athyn by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-11. Against Abington the game scores got closer after each set with Berks capturing the win by scores of 25-8, 25-13, 25-18.

Addie Parsons led Berks against Bryn Athyn with 12 kills, followed by Jenny Von Holt with eight and Heleanna Davison with six. Megan DeAbreu led the Nittany Lions in both digs (21) and service aces (4), while Cassidy Schultz followed with 15 digs and two aces. Corinne Watson recorded 24 assists, eight digs, and two service aces.

In the second game, Berks collected 37 kills and committed just eight errors to finish with a .345 team hitting percentage. Schultz added a team high 12 kills and Davison had eight kills, with no errors and 11 attacks. Watson handed out 35 assists and had a team-high five aces. DeAbreu recorded 18 digs, followed by Parsons with a season-high 17.

The Nittany Lions will finish off the weekend against host Saint Elizabeth on Sunday, October 4 at 12 p.m.
