Nittany Lions split a pair of NEAC matches

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (October 17, 2015) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team opened up the day with a 3-0 setback to Gallaudet University, but bounced back with a thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Lancaster Bible College in a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions now sit at 15-9 overall and have finished off conference play with a 9-3 record, which has them at fourth in the standings.

Gallaudet (16-8, 7-1 NEAC) downed Berks by game scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-15. In the second game, the Chargers (12-12, 7-5 NEAC) won the opener 25-18, but Berks evened it up with a 25-21 triumph in the second game. LBC picked up the third game 25-23 to gain control of the game and put the Nittany Lions back against the wall. But the Nittany Lions swung momentum by grabbing a 25-10 win in the fourth to force a decisive fifth game. Berks jumped out to an early lead in the fifth game and never looked back, winning by a score of 15-6.

Cassidy Schultz recorded a season-high 16 kills - falling one shy of her career best - while committing only two errors to finish with a .350 hitting percentage. In addition, the senior outside hitter had two service aces and 10 digs. Addie Parsons chipped in nine kills, 10 digs, and two service aces, while Heleanna Davison added eight kills, six solo blocks, and two block assists. Corinne Watson handed out 32 assists and Megan DeAbreu recorded 16 digs.

The Nittany Lions will travel to the University of Scranton for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 20 at 7 p.m.
