Men's soccer edged in overtime by Stevenson

READING, PA (September 2, 2014) - T.J. Yurkovic tallied the first two goals of his collegiate career in the first half, but Stevenson University was able to overcome the early deficit to pick up a 3-2 win in double overtime in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (0-2) were able to force their first corner kick of the game in the 11th minute. Joe Budnovitch had a great insert that Isaiah Danner headed on target, but keeper Ryan Callinan was able to knock it away. Yurkovic then dashed into the box and knocked the rebound into the open near side corner to put Berks ahead 1-0.

In the 44th minute, Michael Peguero drew a foul when chasing down a loose ball. Yurkovic took the direct kick and sent a line drive over the Mustang (2-1) wall and past the outstretched arms of the keeper to up the lead to 2-0.

The Mustangs evened the contest with goals in the 78th and 80th minute. The teams exchanged scoring opportunities over the next 20-plus minutes, but neither team could break through for the winner. However, just over two minutes into the second overtime, Cameron Wilson collected a loose ball and unleashed a gamewinner into the top left corner of the cage.

Kyle Baker came up with a number of clutch saves over the 102 minutes of action. He finished the contest with six saves, including two in the first overtime.

The Nittany Lions will jump into conference action with a NEAC contest at Cazenovia College on Saturday, September 6 at 3 p.m.
