Softball finishes perfect on spring break trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 11, 2014) - The Penn State Berks softball completed a perfect 6-0 run at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic after picking up a 9-4 victory over Emmanuel College and then defeating Bay Path College by a score of 16-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions for the first time this trailed in a game when Emmanuel College went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Berks responded by putting up a seven spot in the top of next inning. Abby Staskiel capped off the inning with a three run double to give the Nittany Lions a three run lead. She finished the game with two doubles and four runs batted in.

Missy Lamm and Colleen Hoge each scored two runs, while five other Nittany Lions crossed the plate once.

In the second game, the Nittany Lions tallied nine runs over the final two innings. Chelsea Bright scored four runs, while Julia Moscato went 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored. Rhianna Roulston collected two hits, including a triple, and scored two runs. Staskiel had one hit and drove in three runs, while Lamm went 2-for-5 with three runs scored. Hoge added two hits, including a triple, drove in three runs and scored two times.

Staskiel picked up the win in the circle after striking out four and allowing four runs (two earned) in a complete-game effort.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Wednesday, March 19 in a doubleheader against Alvernia University at 3 p.m.
