Women's volleyball sweeps Marywood



READING, PA (October 9, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team used a strong start en route to a 3-0 win over Marywood College in a non-conference contest on Thursday in Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (13-6) picked up their fourth consecutive win and ninth in the last 10 matches. Cassidy Schultz opened up the contest with four aces in her first five serves to give Berks a quick 5-0 lead in the first game. They would go on to win by game scores of 25-12, 25-15, 25-12.

Schultz matched a career-high with five aces on the day, to go along with her nine kills and 16 digs. Sophia Zhang had a contest-high 15 kills without any errors to finish with a .682 hitting percentage. Jordan Heath handed out 31 assists and Megan DeAbreu had a contest-high 18 digs.

The women's volleyball squad, along with men's soccer and women's soccer have hosted Pink Game fundraisers to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, which is a non-profit organization that provides hope, information, and emotional support to women diagnosed with breast cancer and those who care for and about them. The Nittany Lions will travel to Swarthmore University for a tri-match on Saturday, October 11 beginning at 3 p.m.
