Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Nittany Lions blank Moravian College

READING, PA (October 8, 2014) - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team continued its strong play on both ends of the field with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Moravian College on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions improved to 11-1 on the season and picked up their third straight shutout and eighth of the season. Savannah Cramer made a season high eight saves and Brennan Moyer made a crucial defensive save at the goal line early in the first half with Berks clinging to just a 1-0 lead at the time.

Dana Sarcinello supplied a perfect through ball past a series of defenders to lead Lizzie Mummau to a one-on-one with the keeper at the 9:05 mark of the first half. Once Mummau got past the Greyhound (6-6) defenders, she took a few touches and ripped a line drive into right corner.

Both teams exchanged a couple of scoring opportunities over the ensuing 20 minutes, but it was Mummau again who found the back of the net. Moyer cleared a pass from deep in the Berks defensive zone that took a big bounce over the Moravian back row. Mummau, again on a breakaway, unleashed a shot from the left side of the box the crossed past the keeper and into the right corner for a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute.

After 50 plus minutes of scoreless play, the patient Nittany Lion offense struck one final play in the 80th minute. The Greyhounds committed a foul deep in their defensive zone and elected to pack the box with defenders on the upcoming free kick. Moyer decided to send a quick pass to the top of the 20, where Sarcinello took the pass and sent a shot into the top left corner to put the game out of reach.

Moravian held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, while Berks outshot the Greyhounds by a 20-16 margin.

The women's soccer squad, along with men's soccer and women's volleyball have hosted Pink Game fundraisers to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, which is a non-profit organization that provides hope, information, and emotional support to women diagnosed with breast cancer and those who care for and about them.
