Danner's goal in double overtime sinks SUNYIT

READING, PA (October 19, 2014) - Isaiah Danner drilled home the gamewinner early in the second overtime to give Penn State Berks a 3-2 victory and earn its second consecutive win.

The Nittany Lions improved to 4-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference after defeating the Wildcats for the first time in program history.

The contest was a back-and-forth battle that saw Berks taking a lead and SUNYIT tying the match moments later. The Nittany Lions were issued a red card early in the second half and played a man down for the bulk of the second half and all of overtime. In addition to being a man down, they were outshot 25-8 and the Wildcats held a 15-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Despite all of that, Berks was able to break through with impressive goals all day long. The first goal of the game came from a perfect cross by T.J. Yurkovic that Anthony Kidron deflected past the keeper 4:20 into the contest.

The Wildcats responded with a goal in the 29th minute, but one minute and three seconds later Hayden Rowe delivered a perfect pass on a free kick that Yurkovic headed into the back of the net to build a 2-1 lead.

After a long stretch of scoreless play, SUNYIT was able to tie the game in the 82nd minute. It appeared that the momentum was fully on SUNYIT's side, as Berks did not have a single shot on goal since Yurkovic's goal in the 30th minute.

But the only Nittany Lion shot after Yurkovic's was a bullet into the back of the net by Danner to claim the victory. Kyle Moran started the play by weaving through the Wildcat defense. He lost the ball in front of the net and when SUNYIT tried to clear it, the ball bounced off of Moran's back and directly to Danner, who then unleashed a drive into the open net.

Danner, followed by his teammates, ran out to midfield right in front of the stands to celebrate the amazing overtime victory.

None of the wild theatrics would have been possible if not for the amazing play by goalkeeper Kyle Baker and the defensive unit of Danner, Moran, Michael Vang, and Nick Baughman. Baker finished the game with career-best and program-high 17 saves. Baughman shifted between defensive back and midfield throughout the game, but no matter where he was he was stopping the Wildcat attack.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Keuka College for a NEAC contest on Friday, October 24 at 6 p.m.
