Women's volleyball splits at NEAC Crossover



MARCY, N.Y. (September 21, 2013) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to host SUNYIT, but bounced back with a 3-0 win over Morrisville State College on the second day of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Crossover at Wildcat Field House on Saturday. In the opener, the Nittany Lions (5-4, 2-1 NEAC) lost by scores of 12-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-20. Against the Mustangs, Berks won by scores of 25-10, 25-15, 25-18.

Against the Wildcats (12-1, 2-0 NEAC), Cassidy Schultz recorded 12 kills and 11 digs. It was the fifth straight match that the sophomore outside hitter reached double digits in digs. Sophia Zhang and Heleanna Davison each chipped nine kills, while Davison added two solo blocks and assisted on three blocks.

Morgan Buterbaugh collected 36 of the Nittany Lions 89 digs. Colby Jones picked up 16, while Schultz and Sarah Winton each had 11. Jordan Heath recorded nine digs and handed out 33 assists.

In the win over Morrisville State, Schultz had a team-high nine kills. She also added two service aces, three digs, one solo block and three block assists. Heath recorded 28 assists, three kills and four service aces. Buterbaugh had 23 digs, followed by Winton with 10.

The Nittany Lions will travel for a non-conference match at Moravian College on Wednesday, September 25 at 7 p.m.
