Softball extends win streak to six with sweep of St. Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (April 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks softball team picked up two more North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division wins after defeating the College of Saint Elizabeth by scores of 11-0 and 15-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved their overall record to 16-2 and 4-0 in the NEAC South, while the Screaming Eagles fell to 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

In the opener, Jess Epler went 3-for-3 with four RBI and a home run. MISSY LAMM went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Colleen Hoge, Lexi Lobb, and Devon Denker each scored twice.

Epler, who set the single-season win record on Wednesday, improved to 12-1 in the pitcher's circle. The right-hander allowed just one hit, while striking out eight batters in the mercy rule shortened five-inning contest. The lone hit came with two outs in the bottom of the third inning by Valerie Lasko and one batter reached base on an error in the fifth. Lasko followed up her hit with a steal of second base, marking the only runner to reach scoring position against Berks in the opener.

In the second game, Lobb, Casey Hafer, Marissa Gonzales, and Denker each recorded three hits. Epler, Marissa Ruggiero, and Lobb each tallied three RBI, while Gonzales drove in a pair of runs.

Hafer cruised to her fourth victory of the season after the Nittany Lions staked her to a 6-0 lead after their first two at-bats. Hafer allowed three runs - one earned - and just two hits, while striking out seven batters.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson College in a NEAC South Division doubleheader on Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m.
