READING, PA (April 3, 2013) - The Penn State Berks softball team opened up its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division play with a doubleheader sweep over visiting Penn State Harrisburg by scores of 9-0 and 9-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Hintz Athletic Field.

The Nittany Lions improved their overall record to 14-2 and stand at 2-0 in the NEAC, while Harrisburg dropped to 3-13 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Berks has outscored its opposition 46-1 during a recent four game winning streak.

Berks was clinging to a 2-0 lead when a 7-run fourth inning busted the game open. Missy Lamm doubled in two runs and Casey Hafer hit a bases clearing double to propel the Nittany Lions to the eight-run rule. Hafer finished the game with a career-high four runs batted in. Lexi Lobb and Lamm each scored two runs for Berks.

The leadoff runner of the game, who was left stranded, was the only Harrisburg base runner to make it to third base. Epler then earned her 11th win of the season after allowing five hits and one earned run in the second game. She struck out six batters to raise her total 87 on the season.

Epler, who finished the day with five base on balls, went 1-for-1 with two RBI and run scored in the second game. Abby Staskiel put the mercy rule into effect with two RBI in the bottom of the fifth.
