Nittany Lions finish off perfect week at Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 6, 2013) - The Penn State Berks softball team completed a perfect 6-0 week at The Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic after defeating Emory & Henry College by a score of 7-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach.

The Nittany Lions, who continued their best start in program history, surrendered their first runs of the season to the opposition. During the spring break trip, Berks has outscored its opponents by a 65-3 clip.

Playing against their toughest opponent on the trip, the Nittany Lions used a complete team effort to take down the Wasps (3-4). Leading just 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Marissa Gonzales got the inning started with a lead off single. Missy Lamm added an RBI single and Lexi Lobb drove in a pair of runs with a single to give Berks some insurance runs.

Jess Epler went the distance in the pitcher's circle to pick up another win. She also had an RBI double in the third inning.

Next up on the schedule is the Nittany Lions home opener against Alvernia University on Thursday, March 14. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
