Nittany Lions pick up road win over Wilson



CHAMBERSBURG, PA (January 27, 2013) - Four players finished in double figures as the Penn State Berks women's basketball team downed Wilson College, 78-69, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Sunday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions, who won for the third time in four games, moved to 7-11 overall and back to .500 in the conference at 6-6. Berks is currently a half-game back or Penn State Abington (6-5 NEAC) in the standings for the final playoff spot.

Shanelle Koch continued her strong play, finishing with a team-high 21 points. The freshman guard raised her scoring average to 15.1 points per game, which ranks 10th in the NEAC. Nichole Young-Trapp chipped in 19 points, followed by Fatima Rone's career-high 17 points. Keisha Robinson added 11 points, eight rebounds, and four assists.

Kellie Wilson pulled down a career-high nine rebounds to lead the Nittany Lions. Young-Trapp and Robinson followed with eight rebounds each, but the Phoenix (2-12, 0-11 NEAC) won the battle of the boards by a 58-47 margin. Berks made up for that by forcing Wilson into 25 turnovers, while only committing 17.

Ashlee Yealy recorded 23 points, 16 rebounds, and seven blocked shots, all of which were game-highs, to lead the Phoenix. Vanessa Whitfield followed with 22 points and 11 boards, followed by Tara Fields with 13 points.

The Nittany Lions will host SUNY Institute of Technology on Saturday, February 2 at 1 p.m. in Beaver Community Center.
