Men's soccer drops conference opener to Wells

AURORA, N.Y. (September 8, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team opened up North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play with a 2-0 loss on the road to Wells College on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The loss drops the Nittany Lions to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NEAC, while Wells improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

John Murphy has recorded double-digit saves in each of the first two matches for the Nittany Lions. After making 12 in the opener, he recorded 11 against the Express.

Wyatt Buerkle broke the scoreless contest with a header off of the corner kick from Levi Christman at the 43:59 mark of the first half. Christman then scored off of a deflection in the 72nd minute with Justin Zywot providing the assist.

Derek Dellalba recorded three shots for Berks, while Cory Garritano and Erik Mertz each had two.

The Express held a 31-9 advantage in shots and 5-3 on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Keuka College for a NEAC showdown on Sunday, September 9 at 3 p.m.
