Mosser's career day leads Nittany Lions to win in NEAC thriller

READING, PA (September 20, 2012) - KAYLA MOSSER drilled home her 22nd kill of the night to cap off the Penn State Berks women's volleyball teams 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Lancaster Bible College on Thursday evening at Beaver Community Center. (Boxscore)

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener proved to be a much more thrilling battle than when the two teams met earlier this season in the Nittany Lions 3-0 win at the Franklin & Marshall Tournament. The Nittany Lions took the first game 25-22 before dropping the next two by scores of 25-17 and 25-23. Berks dominated the fourth game (25-12) and pulled out a 15-13 seesaw victory in the decisive fifth game.

KAYLA MOSSER, who finished the contest with a career-high 22 kills, carried the team all match long. The sophomore middle blocker gave Berks a 13-12 lead in the fifth game and Cassidy Schultz followed with an ace to get to match point. Mosser appeared to seal the win with a block, but a blocking error was called to put the score at 14-13. Mosser halted the Chargers comeback bid with a slam past a pair of Lancaster Bible blockers.

Mosser's career effort is the second most kills in a single-match in school history, trailing AMY SHELTON's 26 recorded against the University of Scranton last year. She added three solo blocks, one block assist and an ace.

Rachel Sweeney also played a vital role in the win, finishing with nine kills and a personal-best six service aces. Courtney Lucarelli chipped in seven kills, while Caitlin Scroger and Heleanna Davison each had six.

Victoria Young, Katie Sostak, and Schultz combined for 57 of the Nittany Lions season-high 92 digs. Abby Musselman (15 digs) and Lucarelli (10 digs) also reached double figures in digs. Musselman was another Berks member to establish a career-high with her 51 assists handed out.

The Chargers were led by Lauren Heliger and Lauren Davis, who each recorded 15 kills. Hannah Metzler had 40 assists and Heliger had a contest-high 28 digs.

The Nittany Lions will continue conference play with three matches at SUNY Cobleskill this weekend. Berks will face Keuka College (2 p.m.) and SUNY Cobleskill (4 p.m.) on Saturday, followed by Cazenovia College (10 a.m.) on Sunday.
