Softball sweeps regular season finale



MORRISTOWN, N.J. (April 26, 2012) - The Penn State Berks softball team completed its season sweep over the College of St. Elizabeth with a 7-2 win in the opener and an 8-5 victory in the nightcap of Thursday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest.

The Nittany Lions will enter the NEAC Championship as the No. 3 seed from the south division after finished with a 12-8 conference record.

In the opener, Raychel Dearmitt picked up the win after tossing a complete game three hitter. She allowed two runs - one earned- and struck out eight batters. Dearmitt improves to 4-8 on the season.

Dearmitt also led the Nittany Lions at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Kayla Vrabel had one hit and two RBI, while Alyssa Stahly and Sarah Nelson each scored two runs.

In the second game, Vrabel and BRITANY NELSON each recorded three hits and scored two runs. Vrabel also had two RBI. Stefany Dusman smacked her team-leading third home run of the season.

BRITANY NELSON got the win in the pitcher's circle after tossing all 7.0 innings. SHe allowed five runs - all earned - and struck out four.

The conference playoffs will be played at the No. 1 seed from the north division.
