Nittany Lions drop non-conference tilt with Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLE, PA (March 28, 2012) - The Penn State Berks baseball team suffered an 11-4 setback on the road to Gwynedd-Mercy College in its final tuneup before conference play on Wednesday afternoon.

Tyler Salvati drew three walks and drove in a season-high two RBIs to lead the Nittany Lion offense. Kyle Hartman, who recorded his first home run of the season on Monday, had a team high two hits and scored two runs. Rich Schlamowitz scored the other two runs for Berks. Ryan Zawaski recorded an RBI for the third straight game that he appeared in.

The Nittany Lions combined to draw 10 free passes, but were snake bitten by 13 runners left on base. They left the bases loaded three times and had eight runners stranded in scoring position.

David Loose pitched a career-high three innings, allowing just two hits and no runs.

The Nittany Lions will travel to New York this weekend for North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheaders at Keuka College (Saturday) and Cazenovia College (Sunday). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on both days.
